Dr. Gary Evans has extensive experience as an entrepreneur, board-level executive, investment manager, educator, and economic development professional. Dr. Evans experience spans the US, European Union (EU), Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and Africa.
Dr. Evans has consulted with clients around the world on more than 200 projects including regional and national strategies, economic analysis, and on major initiatives such as investment and loan programs, research parks, innovation districts, and business incubation and other entrepreneurship programs, taking several from the planning stage to implementation and ongoing management, including a 200-acre multi-site research park.
As a member of the board of his previous company, ANGLE plc, Dr. Evans was also responsible for developing and implementing a private sector venture studio including taking the company through an IPO on the London Alternative Investment Market (AIM). A total of fourteen new companies were created through this program, three of which in turn obtained AIM listings.
Separate from his work with ANGLE plc Dr. Evans has participated in the founding of seven companies and served as the Chairman or a board member of several others. He also serves as an advisor to entrepreneurs and early-stage companies and serves as a mentor for the National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps program, for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and for the DoD-sponsored National Security Innovation Network (NSIN).
Dr. Evans has also served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia Darden Graduate Business School and the Robert Gordon University in Scotland, focusing on entrepreneurship and innovation.
Dr. Evans serves as Vice Chairman of the board of The Launch Place – a non-profit ecosystem development organization that provides support to entrepreneurs in Virginia and North Carolina and operates pre-seed and seed funds. He is also founding President of the Center for Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship – a non-profit organization created to undertake research and support innovative, market-driven approaches to the translation of new technologies to the marketplace.
Dr. Evans holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry, and a master’s level qualification in management. He has also received formal education in French, German, and Spanish, and while not fluent in speaking these languages can read and write in them at the Intermediate level.
Dr. Evans’ experience spans research, technology transfer, and product development across a wide range of industries including healthcare, engineering and instrumentation, software, and electronics. He is also a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) as designated by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and served for the maximum two terms as a member of the IEDC International Committee. He also maintains memberships in several professional bodies and societies.
